Face wearing a sock face mask - How to Make a Sock Face Mask

To slow the spread of COVID-19, people have been encouraged to wear face masks in public areas. If you don't know your way around a sewing machine, and you don't want to spend money on masks, try an easy DIY. Here are step-by-step instructions for how to make a no-sew face mask out of socks.

First, gather your materials. All you need is a clean pair of socks and a pair of scissors. Ankle socks, crew socks, and long socks will all work. And trust us, the "clean" part is important. This will be covering your nose!

Lay the sock flat and cut it in half between the heel and the toe. You will make the mask out of the part with the heel. Then, cut it across, just above the ankle.

Cut the sock open from the top of the ankle opening to the top of the other opening.

Fold the sock in half, and cut a slit about 1/2" from the edge. Start cutting from the fold, and cut until you're about 1/2" away from the openings. Be sure not to cut all the way through.
